Tonight will ring in the new year, and here I sit at my computer - the last full night of 2009 at 4:45am.... Both my oldest son and I have been awake since about 3:30 when 'something' woke us up. We gave up trying to fall back to sleep as we listened to the woosh, woosh of the turbines and went downstairs to watch a little tv. The power went out for a few seconds - I have noticed that our power seems to be going out, or flickering a lot this year - and I came up to check the computer.
I can still here the turbines but feel them only slightly in my chest. I have a headache at the front of my forehead and I am sure that is from the turbines as well....our renovation is coming along, and hopefully when the insulation and siding/roofing are finished, we won't hear them anymore....
Looking forward to a peaceful 2010!
Nik

Is this serious? This blog this entire ignorance to Nature and the future of our children. Can't you ss that this is the only answer for the sustainability of Earth, Peace and all species.
If you we continue to ignore the political dependence of reusable energy well all face a nasty iron fist sooner or later.
Dont you ubderstand wind enery is free, predictable, low cost and minor little sounds and vibrations are so blatantly better than you and your family waking up to acid rain your kids coughing from Asthma and you dying an early death from pollution, not to say the wonderful view we will all have of Nucleur plants...99% of humans would live by a wind farm if it meant less disruption and a waste of taxes from neo conservative twats like the bush administration fighting for oil!
Stop whinging.

Dear Anonymous,
Thank you for your post. Yes, this is very serious. I agree with much of what you have said and am in full agreement that we as a population need to do everything we can to "save" our planet. However, there are many side affects to wind energy that you do not seem to understand. It does not appear that you read my entire blog, I think you should. If you had, you would see that the sound is not our biggest issue, and that we are doing everything we can to combat the sound and vibration on our own in hopes that what we do we can share with others in the same position if it works. Further, you mention the view - I have said from day one that I think the turbines are quite interesting and in fact beautiful in the distance. The view is definately not a problem for me. I only showed the view from one window to show how close the turbines have been placed to my home. I must disagree that 99% of humans would live by a wind farm as there are hundreds who do and most of them suffer from sleepless nights, migraines, and other serious side effects. Several families have had to leave homes they have lived in for generations. While I am happy to see that you are committed to the sustainability of Earth, Peace and all species, I would encourage you to spend a little more time on your research before making such harsh judgements. I encourage you to go to the links listed on my blog. Please visit the Wind Concerns of Ontario and the Victims of Wind blogs and you will see that it is not "minor little sounds and vibrations" as you put it, that we are letting people know about.
I hope you find this information and helpful.
Nik
I understand. My fault in assuming. all the best and sorry for my abrupt forwarding.
From London.
Thank you for your willingness to be open-minded. It is much appreciated. I only wish more people would try to see both sides of this issue so that a solution could be reached that allows the use of wind energy to do what it can, while ensuring the safety of people and wildlife. Apology certainly accepted.
I don't see any issues in using wind power and to have wind turbines. Even i am having it at my place and i am living peacefully. It is sad to know that you have to suffer due this. Everything comes with there pros and cons and i think with time techniques are going to improve and we would have clean energy in a better way.
Dear Nik,
I feel your pain. My other half owns a home in Melanchthon TWP. and has at least one turbine on each corner of his home, he has 7! less that 1000 meters from his home. I don't know if you have noticed, or have around your home, but in instances where the turbines are doubled (or tripled) up, the noise and humming is actually intensified as they feed off each other. He has this scenario on 3 of the 4 corners of his house. There is no direction of wind that gives relieif, where ever it blows there is a turbine pointing at his house.
I wish that I could reassure about your renovations, and the ability of additional insulation in the walls and roof to help with the noise inside your home, but this is not the case. My other half has built him home from scratch, with his own 2 hands, and with intent of never leaving it, had gone well above and betond the call of duty when it came to insultation etc.. to make the home more eco friendly and efficeint. This has not helped at all. He cannot sleep anywhere on his upper floor (has not been able to use his masterbedroom for 5 months now), and he can sometimes sleep in the spare room on the lower level, but most often winds up on the couch, or just sitting awake and cryong as his lifes work, and dream slips away.
As for Anonymous... Perhaps before you tout off about this that ans the other thing yu should do a little research, and maybe have a sleep under one of these things! If sleeping (or not) doesn't convince you that turbines (industrial machines) and people homes don't mix, then maybe you can look at how effectibe they have been thru out the rest of the world. Look at Denmark, 20 years in the turbines business and not one coal plant shut down. How about France, putting a moratorium on turbines?? How about come health reports from around the world. How about the fact that the World Health Organization has made determintations about turbines and humans.. I am pretty sure that they don't have time to work on health issues that are all in our heads??
I could go on, but the prrof is in the pudding.. Grab your tent and come and spend some time on what used to be our beatiful country side, and is now noisy, and speckled with little red lights.
Good luck Nik, take care.
Thank you Anonymous for your support, it is much appreciated.
